What the Adventure involves

Elite Exped’s experience in the high Himalayas is second to none. Our leader's record-breaking feats on the world’s 8,000m peaks are well documented, but we’re not just adept at handling the world’s most dangerous environments. Our hard-earned experience in the death zone filters down into all our expedition planning and preparation, and we adopt the same meticulous approach to every trip we undertake - including our treks.

The Elite Exped Annapurna Base Camp Trek follows an expedition plan put in place by our leaders and their handpicked guiding team. The 12-day itinerary starts in Kathmandu, where we take in the shrines, temples, and bustling bazaars. From there, we drive to Pokhara, the gateway to the Annapurna region, through some of the most stunning landscapes on the planet. We begin our trek in Tikhedunga, passing through Poon Hill, and Duerali before arriving into Annapurna Base Camp, 4,130m above sea level, on day 10. Our return follows an onward loop through Jinhu Hot Springs - a must for tired legs.

Along the way, you’ll be treated to incredible views of Annapurna up close, but also to close ups of Machapuchare. Said to be the home of the Hindu God Shiva, it’s one of the highest unclimbed peaks on the planet, as permission to reach the summit has never been granted by the Nepalese government. In 1957, a British Expedition got to within 150m of the top, before turning around to honour a promise they’d made to the then-King of Nepal. It’s never been climbed since.

As an entirely Nepalese operation, Elite Exped is uniquely placed to show you not just the stunning scenery of the Annapurna region, but it’s rich culture too. Most of our handpicked guiding team hail from the Himalayas, meaning we can show you perspectives that other operators may be unaware of.

Our team’s Nepalese heritage doesn’t just enhance your experience, however, it also helps make our treks safer. We know these trails and treks intimately, including all the evacuation routes, should something unexpected happen. We speak the language, allowing us to operate efficiently, without fear of misunderstanding. And our long operational history in this part of the world means we can keep every aspect of our treks in house, never having to rely on third parties who might let us down.

Furthermore, the Elite Exped guiding team aren’t just record-breaking mountaineers, they’ve hugely experienced mountain rescuers, with extensive training in high-altitude recovery techniques. This, combined with our intimate knowledge of the region around Annapurna, means you’ll be in the safest possible hands on this epic adventure.

Trekking

The trek to Everest Base Camp is the world’s most famous multi-day adventure hike for a reason.

Oct-Nov
6000m Peaks

Nicknamed Island Peak by Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary’s 1953 Mount Everest Expedition, the mountain properly known as Imja Tse is a perfect introduction to the rigours of Himalayan climbing. At 6,189m above sea level, the peak appears as an island surrounded by a sea of ice if viewed from Dingboche, and offers stunning views of Everest and Lhotse, but is actually relatively accessible. If you’re just embarking on Himalayan climbs, an ascent of Island Peak with Elite Exped is a great place to start.

Sep-Oct
6000m Peaks

Rising to 6,476m above sea level, Mera Peak, in Khumbu region of Nepal, is known as the gateway to Everest. From its summit, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views which take in five of the world’s highest mountains - Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu and, of course, Everest. But it’s not just the views that give Mera its reputation. This relatively easy mountain is often the first Himalayan climbs that mountaineers tackle, paving the way for greater conquests in future.
