Aimed at climbers ready to step into the world of 7000m peaks and prepare for future 8000m expeditions. While not extremely technical, Himlung demands strong alpine skills and excellent physical conditioning for success at high altitude.

Gateway to 8000ers - perfect training peak

Hidden in the wild, mystical folds of Nepal’s remote Manaslu region — between the imposing Annapurna Range and the Tibetan plateau — stands Himlung Himal, a striking 7,126-meter peak that represents much more than just elevation. For many climbers, it is the gateway to the world of 8000ers: a formidable challenge in its own right, yet perfectly balanced to offer a training ground for higher Himalayan conquests. With its dramatic pyramid-like profile and relatively secluded setting in the Nar-Phu Valley, Himlung combines technical mountaineering, cultural immersion, and unfiltered Himalayan beauty in one unforgettable expedition.

Unlike more commercialised climbs, Himlung rewards those who seek a quieter, more authentic high-altitude experience. The route to base camp winds through ancient Tibetan-influenced villages, monasteries, and untouched alpine wilderness. The sense of remoteness and peace is as profound as the mountain’s summit panorama. Despite being more accessible in terms of logistics than other 7000ers, Himlung demands commitment, strength, and mental grit — making it a logical and meaningful objective for climbers aiming to eventually summit peaks like Manaslu, Everest, or K2.

Elite Exped’s 29-day Himlung program is designed not just to help you reach the top, but to prepare you to thrive in the unique environment of high Himalayan expeditions. The itinerary includes a carefully planned acclimatisation schedule, high-altitude training, and multiple rotations. At its core are Elite Exped’s world-renowned leaders: Nirmal “Nimsdai” Purja, Mingma David Sherpa, and Mingma Tenzi Sherpa — whose records, operational precision, and unmatched experience form the backbone of the expedition’s safety and success.

Whether you’re an alpinist progressing through the altitude spectrum or a seasoned climber seeking solitude and raw mountain energy, Himlung Himal offers a rare blend: a genuine challenge, remote serenity, and a clear path to mastering the art of high-altitude mountaineering. And with Elite Exped by your side, you’re not just climbing a mountain — you’re preparing to ascend the world.

Why choose
Elite Exped?

Unparalleled
leadership

Nimsdai Purja, Mingma David Sherpa’s and Mingma Tenzi’s mountaineering groundbreaking records speak for themselves, but our leaders are more than just supremely talented climbers.

While some choose to direct operations from back office, our three directors lead from the front. Their experience in every aspect of guiding and climbing — from fixing ropes to organising logistics — is unparalleled. It's no surprise that they have the industry-leading success rate when it comes to summiting 8,000m peaks.

Beyond this, our handpicked team of guides have also chalked up dozens of successful summits between them.

Safety through
self-sufficiency

If it’s controllable we control it: this is key to attaining and maintaining our industry-leading strategy for success and safety.

We maximise our options, agility and responsiveness by running self-sufficient expeditions that don’t rely on any other teams to achieve our objectives.

Our team is capable of setting up our own fixed lines (with a proven track record on all 8,000m peaks) and has backups to cover all scenarios. These include everything from secondary oxygen supplies to the ability and experience to operate our own rescue missions if the situation arises.

A unique
perspective

With his Nepalese roots and UK residency, our co-founder Nimsdai Purja brings a unique perspective and an unparalleled ability to bridge the gap between Western and Himalayan climbing cultures.

We can assemble trusted teams and networks anywhere in the world, but our founders’ roots are a particular advantage when it comes to summiting the world’s very highest peaks.

An intimate knowledge of how things work on the ground ensures that everything runs smoothly when you’re 8,000m above sea-level.
