K2 / Broad Peak

Conquer the Karakorum
in a single summer.

K2 & Broad Peak
Expedition

K2 isn’t nicknamed “the savage mountain” for nothing. The world’s second highest peak is arguably the toughest challenge in mountaineering, but nearby Broad Peak, the world’s 12th highest mountain, is the perfect stepping stone to tackling this daunting challenge. This expedition offers you the chance to conquer two of the Karakorum’s most iconic peaks in the space of a single summer climbing season.

Aimed at climbers who’ve made multiple ascents of 6,000m and 7,000m peaks, as well as one 8,000er, and are already proficient in mountaineering skills - including moving safely in rock, glacier and snowy terrain.

Conquer two of the Karakorum’s most iconic peaks: K2 & Broad Peak

Elite Exped’s leaders Nimsdai, Mingma David and Mingma Tenzi will be forever associated with K2 because of their world first winter ascent in January 2021. But they also have a history with the world’s second highest mountain that stretches back before that remarkable feat. Mingma David led the rope-fixing team on K2 twice, leading to successful summits both times. And of course, Nimsdai summited the savage mountain as part of his ‘Project Possible’ push in 2019, climbing Broad Peak just a few days later.

Our leader's extensive experience in the Karakorum makes them uniquely placed to offer this ambitious combo package, which sees us using Broad Peak, one of the easiest of the 8,000ers, as an acclimatisation climb, en route to tackling K2, one of the most difficult.

Elite Exped’s K2 expedition plans are based on Nimsdai’s own from Project Possible, where speed and efficiency were paramount in achieving his goal. On this combo expedition, we aim to summit both Broad Peak and K2 within 63 days, with the time on Broad Peak reducing the amount of time we need to spend acclimatising on the lower slopes of K2. This 60 day period includes an additional week of contingency, in case of bad weather.

Our leader's success on mountains like Broad Peak and K2 is about more than just their supreme skill as climbers - it comes down to their ability to plan and prepare for every eventuality that can possibly be prepared for. This approach is what enables Elite Exped to offer these unique combination climbs. We control the controllable, making sure we keep every aspect of expedition planning in house, from preparing food to fixing ropes. This means we’re never left relying on third parties, and can maximise the efficiency of your time on the ground in Pakistan.

As with all Elite Exped expeditions, our first priority is your safety. We guarantee a 1:1 guide to client ratio, with four highly experienced Sherpas always kept on standby in case of emergencies. At every stage of the combination expedition, we will be monitoring each member of the team’s performance, and we won’t push on to K2 without a high level of certainty that the objective of summiting is within your reach.

Like Nimsdai, Mingma David, and Mingma Tenzi all of our guides are hugely experienced mountaineers, and many of them are record-holders in their own right. But they’re also trained in high-altitude rescue and recovery techniques. We have evacuation plans and accessible helicopter rescue in place, ready to go at short notice should it be needed. Simply put, if you’re thinking of attempting one of the world’s hardest mountains, you could not be in safer hands.

Climbing K2 is a huge achievement and the pinnacle of any mountaineers’ career. It’s not easy, but that’s the point. As record-breakers, we recognise and respect the desire to achieve the impossible in our clients - it’s what drives us too. If it’s your dream to conquer the savage mountain, and you have the experience and ability to take on Broad Peak at the same time, we’ll climb them with you, every step of the way.

Why choose
Elite Exped?

Unparalleled
leadership

Nimsdai Purja, Mingma David Sherpa’s and Mingma Tenzi’s mountaineering groundbreaking records speak for themselves, but our leaders are more than just supremely talented climbers.

While some choose to direct operations from back office, our three directors lead from the front. Their experience in every aspect of guiding and climbing — from fixing ropes to organising logistics — is unparalleled. It's no surprise that they have the industry-leading success rate when it comes to summiting 8,000m peaks.

Beyond this, our handpicked team of guides have also chalked up dozens of successful summits between them.

Safety through
self-sufficiency

If it’s controllable we control it: this is key to attaining and maintaining our industry-leading strategy for success and safety.

We maximise our options, agility and responsiveness by running self-sufficient expeditions that don’t rely on any other teams to achieve our objectives.

Our team is capable of setting up our own fixed lines (with a proven track record on all 8,000m peaks) and has backups to cover all scenarios. These include everything from secondary oxygen supplies to the ability and experience to operate our own rescue missions if the situation arises.

A unique
perspective

With his Nepalese roots and UK residency, our co-founder Nimsdai Purja brings a unique perspective and an unparalleled ability to bridge the gap between Western and Himalayan climbing cultures.

We can assemble trusted teams and networks anywhere in the world, but our founders’ roots are a particular advantage when it comes to summiting the world’s very highest peaks.

An intimate knowledge of how things work on the ground ensures that everything runs smoothly when you’re 8,000m above sea-level.
