Broad Peak
Expedition

Broad Peak, across the Baltoro Glaciers of north-eastern Pakistan to K2, is named for both its most prominent feature - a 2km wide summit ridge - and its similarity to Switzerland’s Breithorn (which means ‘broad horn’ in German). This defining characteristic is one of the features that makes this a relatively easy climb when compared to the other 8,000ers. For this reason, it’s often used as a wide stepping stone to further adventures, including its near neighbour, K2.

Aimed at experienced climbers who’ve climbed at least one 6,000m or 7,000m peak. You must have mastered basic mountaineering skills and have a high level of fitness.

The 12th highest and one of the 'easiest' 8000m peaks

Very few people can hold a torch to our leaders, Nimsdai and Mingma David, when it comes to climbing in Pakistan’s Karakoram range. The pair lead the first team ever to climb K2 in winter, in January 2021 including Mingma Tenzi, and Nimsdai’s record-setting Project Possible saw him climbing Broad Peak, as well as Gasherbrum I and II, and K2 in record time.

Broad Peak may be the easiest of these summits, but at 8,047m above sea-level, the world’s 12th highest mountain still demands respect. Our expedition plan is based on the one Nimsdai and Mingma David have used in the past, and our approach is the same as the one they used to set their records. We control every aspect of the climb, from fixing our own ropes and pitching our own tents to carrying our own food, so we’re never left reliant on third parties. This helps us ensure the best chance of success.

Our Broad Peak expedition lasts 46 days, including plenty of days for acclimatisation, rest days, and a lengthy climbing window. We recommend Broad Peak to climbers who have previously summited 6,000m and 7,000m peaks, and are looking to take on their first 8,000er - perhaps with a view to tackling K2 or Everest next.

Elite Exped’s guiding team are the best of the best - handpicked by Nimsdai, using a process inspired by his own Special Forces selection. Not only are they hugely experienced high-alpine mountaineers (many with individual records to their names), they are also trained in alpine rescue and recovery techniques, and have conducted several successful extractions in difficult circumstances when called upon.

We operate with an industry-leading, guaranteed 1:1 guide-to-client ratio, with four experienced Sherpas on standby in case of emergencies. This means we can ensure the absolute highest safety standards. When you’re ready to take this next huge step up in your mountaineering career, you can rest assured that you could not be in safer hands.

Why choose
Elite Exped?

Unparalleled
leadership

Nimsdai Purja and Mingma David Sherpa’s mountaineering world records speak for themselves, but our founders are more than just supremely-talented climbers. While some choose to direct operations from a back office, Nimsdai and Mingma David lead from the front. Their experience of every aspect of guiding and climbing - from fixing ropes, to organising logistics - is unparalleled. It’s no surprise that when they’ve worked together they have a perfect, 100 percent success rate when it comes to summiting 8,000m peaks.

Safety through
self-sufficiency

If it’s controllable we control it, this is key to attain and maintain our industry leading strategy for success and safety. We maximise our options, agility and responsiveness by running totally self-sufficient expeditions, not relying on any other teams on the mountain to achieve our objectives. We are capable of setting up our own fixed lines (with a proven track record on all 8,000m peaks) and have backups to cover all scenarios, from secondary oxygen supplies through to the ability and experience to operate our own rescue missions if the situation arises.

A unique
perspective

With his Nepalese roots, and UK residency, our co-founder Nimsdai Purja brings a unique perspective of the world of mountaineering, and an unparalleled ability to bridge the gap between Western and Himalayan climbing cultures. We can assemble trusted teams and networks anywhere in the world, but our founders’ roots are a particular advantage when it comes to summiting the world’s very highest peaks. An intimate knowledge of how things work on the ground ensures that everything runs smoothly when you’re 8,000m above sea-level.

K2 isn’t nicknamed “the savage mountain” for nothing. The world’s second highest peak is arguably the toughest challenge in mountaineering, but nearby Broad Peak, the world’s 12th highest mountain, is the perfect stepping stone to tackling this daunting challenge. This expedition offers you the chance to conquer two of the Karakorum’s most iconic peaks in the space of a single summer climbing season.

8000m Peaks

Characterized by its sharp, picturesque peak, Manaslu dominates the Mansiri-Himal subrange of the Himalayas. First summited by a Japanese team in 1956, the world’s eighth-highest mountain has a long association with Japanese climbers, but among Europeans remains one of the less well-known peaks. Reaching the summit at 8,163m is a serious undertaking, but one that Elite Exped is ideally equipped to help you achieve.
